I love to experiment. My latest album Ghazal is a fusion of music & poetry. As a lover of both art forms, I have always felt a desire for the two to be blended evenly and harmoniously. In traditional songwriting though, one is often prioritised over the other. But what if we could bring music and poetry together in a way that allowed them to exist autonomously, in a delicate balance where each enhances the other without overshadowing it? This project also showcases the creative talents of incarcerated individuals in the US, providing them with a platform for artistic expression and redemption. As an activist, I aim to use my music as a tool for social change and empowerment. The press wrote ‘an album with a vision’.

In my debut album Dégoût, I explored the fusion of music and photography to tell a cohesive narrative. Viewing the images as stills from a movie, I envisioned my music as fragments from a soundtrack. That’s why I decided to make miniature cinematographic compositions. The press wrote ‘With her unique approach, Myrthe van de Weetering is reinventing jazz’.
